Printing.

!

Printing was my main career throughout my life. My first exposure to printing was a school tour through Deaton & Spencers. It was only later though, when looking for a job at the end of 4th Form that I considered an apprenticeship in printing. My sister told me that Litho Printers made good money, so I went with that. At the time Litho printing (Lithographic) was still just starting to boom, taking over from Letterpress for high volume work. During my tech days, I still heard the term Slop-ography, instead of Lithography, used to deride the process by Letterpress printers. In the early day of lithography it was hard to control and maintain consistent quality as the chemistry was still developing. I started my Litho printing career at the right time, as the process was starting to mature and stabilise. Litho printing was replacing Letterpress, so litho printers were valuable. I started my 4 year apprenticeship in 19xx. I started in a carton printing and manufacturing plant. They did various boxes, Sara Lee, hair dyes, etc, and even Queens Slipper playing cards.
