4WD Driving

!

I guess I always enjoyed exploring out of the way bush tracks; on push bike, motor bikes, and eventually in cars. The thing that really convinced me to by a 4WD was one time driving down a bush track in my Cortina Station wagon. A rough road for a car, but not really anything for any sort of a 4WD. My Cortina was banging rather hard as I negotiated some rocks. I was afraid of puncturing the sump. It made me retreat. I realised that if I wanted to keep exploring like this, I would need a real 4WD.

Landcruiser FJ55 Around 1988 I bought an old Landcruiser FJ55. This was a great unit. I joined the Blue Mountains 4WD Club, we had many great trips; Wolgan Valley, Barrington Tops, Stockton Beach, Shoalhaven River, etc. Often, at the end of a days driving, setting up camp, sitting around campfire, cooking damper, listening to someone playing guitar. Great times!

This was the end of the 2WD road, then we headed onto 4WD track up the valley. We were with the club, whom I believe had special permission to proceed up the valley track.
