MotoCross
!
Motocross racing was my first real personal interest.
I always had an interest in cars, and mechanical things,
due to my family influence. Dad was a fitter and Turner;
and the whole family seemed to be mechanically inclined.
My old school mate and I would get our hands onto anything with 2 wheels; old motor-scooters, old step throughs, etc; to tinker, with limited success. They started renting out mini-bikes at the old Moore Park Showgrounds, so we dived into that. We were hooked!

My first 'bike' was a Deltek Rock Hopper mini bike. My friend Mark (who still had been going Karting
with me), 2 x David's and others, formed a bit of a group. We would spend our week-ends down
the DMR waste land at the end of Eyre St, and just ride and ride all day!
We would watch in awe when older guys bought bigger bike down.
To my Deltek, I jammed on a SU carbie, that we had lying around; and a Rat Trap muffler.
I am surprised the carbie worked; it was way oversized and barely mounted, it was a very bodgie job.
One of my earliest vehicle mods!
Another one of our memorable ventures was when Mark built an offroad sidecar.
I think it was an old Honda 175 or something. He built a platform for it,
and we would take turns at being rider and monkey, though it was his
so I was more often the monkey.
1974 Honda Elsinore CR125M.Bought this new from Scotts Honda. On this I fitted a big Pumper Diaphragm carbie. Reed valve intake, with extra transfer ports milled into the barrel. Dad shortened up the exhaust to tune it for higher revs.
